My Weight Loss - 3 Things I've Learned

By Shaz Petri

For the last fifteen years I have struggled with my weight. Occasionally I have lost some weight using an Atkins Diet or something similar, but I gained it right back again. Finally I figured some things out and I'm now within 10 lbs of my goal and I've maintained my weight loss for a year and a half! It's so exciting! But anyone who tells you that losing weight is easy is selling you something! Weight loss, and maintaining that loss, takes hard work and dedication.

Here are three things that have helped me:

1. You have to make some changes to lose weight. People who are trying to sell you something will tell you it's quick and easy, but they're trying to sell you something! The truth is that you must make changes to lose weight, otherwise you would already be the perfect weight! Change is not easy. Just ask someone who is trying to stop smoking.

2. Get a scale and weigh yourself regularly. This is one I really struggled with because I don't believe it's healthy to obsess over the numbers on the scale. I still don't think it's healthy to obsess over the numbers, but studies have shown that you have a better chance of success if you regularly weigh yourself.

3. Exercise. I know that a lot of 'quick, easy' lose weight programs will tell you that you don't need to exercise. However, if you want to maintain your weight loss (and be healthy) exercise really helps.

These are three of the key tips that have really helped me with my weight loss and with maintaining that loss. Each of them is absolutely integral. If I drop one of them out of my routine I notice the numbers on the scale begin to climb again. When I keep these tips in my routine the numbers on the scale go back down!
