How to Lose Weight Safely

By Wadlow Chris

Obesity is the most common problem faced by today's youth owing to its junk food and high stress lifestyle. In spite of hitting the gyms quite regularly, many people still find it difficult to shed those excess kilos. This is because most people still do not understand how the body works, its metabolic system and how fat is accumulated in the first place. These tips on how to lose weight, if followed regularly, can be a real eye-opener when it comes to looking fit and trim.

The first and most important thing to do before following any tips on how to lose weight is to calculate your basal metabolic rate or BMI. This simply means the amount of calories that you must take on a daily basis to stay healthy. Any excess gets converted to fat and is stored in the various tissues. You can also use an online calorie calculator to find out how much calories should you be consuming each day.

Any tips on how to lose weight will tell you the importance of a healthy diet. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet in the form of salads and juices. These are packed with minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, all of which are necessary for a fit life. Cut down on the use of meat especially the red variety which is high in calories. The same goes for junk food, soft drinks, alcohol and sweets; all these can help you pile on calories in an unhealthy manner.

Eat five to six small and frequent meals instead of three large ones. And also try to restrict your portions by eating in a small plate. Whenever you feel hungry, snack on raw veggies or nuts instead of deep fried stuff. Cut down on carbohydrates sticking to the brown variety of all foodstuffs like brown rice and bread. Some of the other tips on how to lose weight include reading food labels at supermarkets before you buy any product especially packaged stuff. It is always best to prepare fresh food at home than buy stuff in containers or eat out.

Last but not the least, stick to a regular exercise regimen and maintain a positive outlook towards life. These tips on how to lose weight can indeed help you knock those extra pounds and look fit and fine.

My Weight Loss - 3 Things I've Learned

By Shaz Petri

For the last fifteen years I have struggled with my weight. Occasionally I have lost some weight using an Atkins Diet or something similar, but I gained it right back again. Finally I figured some things out and I'm now within 10 lbs of my goal and I've maintained my weight loss for a year and a half! It's so exciting! But anyone who tells you that losing weight is easy is selling you something! Weight loss, and maintaining that loss, takes hard work and dedication.

Here are three things that have helped me:

1. You have to make some changes to lose weight. People who are trying to sell you something will tell you it's quick and easy, but they're trying to sell you something! The truth is that you must make changes to lose weight, otherwise you would already be the perfect weight! Change is not easy. Just ask someone who is trying to stop smoking.

2. Get a scale and weigh yourself regularly. This is one I really struggled with because I don't believe it's healthy to obsess over the numbers on the scale. I still don't think it's healthy to obsess over the numbers, but studies have shown that you have a better chance of success if you regularly weigh yourself.

3. Exercise. I know that a lot of 'quick, easy' lose weight programs will tell you that you don't need to exercise. However, if you want to maintain your weight loss (and be healthy) exercise really helps.

These are three of the key tips that have really helped me with my weight loss and with maintaining that loss. Each of them is absolutely integral. If I drop one of them out of my routine I notice the numbers on the scale begin to climb again. When I keep these tips in my routine the numbers on the scale go back down!
